Public International Law

Public international law is of increasing importance as states increase their political, economic and social ties with each other. A knowledge of public international law is becoming essential for many lawyers in governments, international organisations and international law firms.

Course Aims and Objectives

By the time you have finished studying this course, you should be able to:

  • show that you have understood, and that you can apply, the basic principles and techniques of public international law
  • demonstrate a detailed understanding of certain selected substantive areas of public international law
  • demonstrate that you have an overview of public international law sufficient to serve as a guide for the conduct of study and research in any field of public international law
  • show that you have learned something about the political context within which international law operates.
